Today I realised I fail at diets because I fail at eating three meals a day. I cant stand going hours and hours between eating and if I am being honest I dont WANT to stand it. It occurs to me that perhaps doing what I have been doing for the last 15 years of " I am on a diet" didnt work then and it wont work now. Planning my meals out (3 meals a day) carefully counting the calories in each meal and following my sisters advice to have an apple when I feel hungry just makes me grumpy and I invariably end up having a sandwich to calm my nerves. If I am honest I am greedy when it comes to food. Perhaps though I have been looking at it all wrong, I like snacking so why not. I am probably saying what millions of people know but I need to fit my diet to my needs. I need to snack so I need to find healthy snacks and fit them in to my meals plans, if that means reducing my main meals then perhaps thats what i need to do. Afterall I keep hearing people say eat little and often (or is that for morning sickness - whatever the point remains).
I will be looking to lose 50 pounds. That means going from 180 pounds to 140. At 140 I will still be overweight as I am only 5 foot 2, but its a start. I am going to try to replace my snacks of choice which are mostly rubbish with healthier ones and count those calories into my diet each day rather than my favourite weight watchers trick - not recording it and pretending it didnt happen.
Here I go.
